Teachers at TreeHouse Yoga Center
Our founder, Maggie McClain
Angela is passionate about yoga, both practicing and teaching. She believes yoga can be used to connect to our wholeness - physical, spiritual, and emotional. Angela has an eclectic style of teaching as she draws from the experience of the many teachers she has had the opportunity to study with - Cindy Lee, Rodney Yee, Judith Lasater, Stephanie Keach, Bryan Kest, Rolf Gates, Ana Forest, Angela Farmer and Victor Kooten. Angela's classes can be considered both grounding and reflective as she encourages her students to reflect inward to find their own inner guidance.
Erich Schiffmann has been a great influence for Bruce, having attended two of his Teacher Training workshops in California. Bruce discovered the Mysore style Ashtanga Yoga system of Pattabhi Jois through attending a course here with David Keil; shortly after which he immersed himself in Ashtanga attending classes 6 days a week at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore India for 3 months. Most recently Bruce attended a 5 day Ashtanga Intensive workshop in Vancouver, Canada with John Scott. Bruce focuses on helping people establish their own home practice, offering individualized classes to small groups of students. In addition to yoga, Bruce works in the IT industry, is a well-versed photographer and likes cats.
Candi Rowen FIFIYS Certified 250-hours
Candi was one of the first students in the Yoga Teacher Training Program at the Florida Institute for Integrated Yoga Studies at the TreeHouse, which began in 1998. Her cross-training background in almost every form of exercise informs her teaching style and keeps her focused on safety, through good form. Candi is both a licensed mental health professional and a certified family mediator - which is why she both enjoys yoga practice and needs yoga in her life.
Cynthia Mallick FIFIYS Certified 250-hours
Cynthia has taught Hatha Yoga classes for the past three years in the Tampa/Brandon area. She is very excited to be part of the Treehouse Community since it was the approach to teaching by its founder, Maggie McClain, that solidified her decision to teach yoga!
Prior to her yoga involvement, Cynthia taught jazz and modern dance to children and adults in Boston, Massachusetts and various cities in Florida. Her passion for teaching reflects her love of learning, desire to communicate and her enjoyment of people. Comments from students sum it up best, "She brings a joyful energy to her class... and has great attention to detail."
Workshops that have most influenced Cynthia have been those taken with Erich Schiffman, Rodney Yee and Aadil Palkhivala.
I began practicing Yoga nearly six years ago and fell fast in love. Before Yoga, I lived a life of obesity, back pain, back surgery, foot, knee pain, shoulder pain, and chronic TMJ pain. Through yoga I am able to live a life virtually pain and injury free. I have a calmer and stiller mind and everyday I learn something new about myself.
I have been fortunate to study with some great Yogis early in my journey. My first exposure to Ashtanga Yoga was a weekend with Kino Macgregor and Tim Feldman. I studied for 40 hours with David Swenson and his wife Shelley Washington in 2005. My love of yoga then brought me to TreeHouse for the first time to experience a Week of Ashtanga Yoga, Mysore style - with David Keil in 2005. It was with David I felt the physical healing of an instructor.
I had my son in 2006 and the path of Yoga brought me into the world of Prenatal Yoga which I did for my entire pregnancy. It was during those classes I knew I wanted to teach. I love teaching all levels of Yoga to all people. I have taught toddler, Prenatal, Basic, and Flowing yoga. Yoga is a gift, given to me to help me on my journey through this life. I am honored to be able to have this opportunity to give that gift back.
With a dance background, Jessica was naturally drawn to the practice of yoga. This journey has allowed her to embrace many other aspects of the practice including philosophy, meditation and breathing techniques. Within the past few years Jessica has studied with numerous Master teachers including David Swenson, Erich Schiffmann, and Mark Whitwell. Jessica believes there is a right yoga for every person and her goal is to guide them along in their own intimate yogic path. Recently she graduated with a B.A. in Religious Studies from the University of South Florida and is currently completing her 250 hour Yoga Teacher Training at the Florida Institute for Integrated Yoga Studies.
Her classes focus on the pure teachings of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan. Her greatest inspiration as a student and teacher have been the profound changes she has seen in peoples lives. She lives a yogic lifestyle and loves sharing these benefits with others. She believes that "true happiness comes from within" and, when applied, the tools that Kundalini Yoga offers can help one lead a healthier, happier, more productive, focused and peaceful life. Wahe Guru!
John Allen developed an interest in yoga and meditation early in his life and has formally studied traditional styles of Hatha and Classical Yoga for the past 10 years in several lineages.. He views Yoga as a living and evolving tradition and not as a set of static principles. While his method of teaching is based on the basic principles of Yoga philosophy, it is adapted to the various needs and dispositions of practitioners. John Allen is a certified Baptiste Power Yoga instructor. He has studied diverse schools of Yoga practice as well as Buddhist meditation techniques during retreat in the remote Himalayas and he incorporates these practices into his classes. It is through the blessing of his teachers Lamchen Gyalpo Rinpoche, Chenga Rinpoche, Ani K.D. Palmo, Acharya Yogi Lama Gursam, Manju Jois and Sean and Karen Conley that he has had the honor to share these Yoga practices. John Allen strives to remind practitioners, as his teachers have often reminded him, that if we can master and subdue the inner elements, we simultaneously transform the outer world.
